The UBB Hearing
This week and next week, the CRTC has been having a hearing about the proposed User Based Billing (UBB) that some of the large telecom companies would like to instate. While this hasn’t been getting nearly enough exposure on traditional media to suit my tastes, I have been following it closely online. As an overview, […]
Canadian Companies and Social Responsibility
Today, Macleans posted two articles that I found highly interesting. The first was Canada the good?, a look at why Canada is ranked very low on having socially responsible companies. The second article, Top 50 socially responsible corporations, takes a look at companies in Canada who are socially responsible, and what exactly it is that […]
Infographics
I will fully admit that I love infographics (graphic visual representations of data). They are used to present what can be very complex information in a quick and concise manner, making it easier to communicate with people. Some examples of infographics are maps and signs, but they have also become prevalent online (mainly through communities […]
Bidding on US Projects
It seems that things may get a little tougher for Canadian manufacturers who are trying to work on American water and wastewater projects. The US House of Representatives just passed a bill (H.R. 5320, the Assistance, Quality and Affordability Act of 2010) which will actually prevent us from making bids on these projects. In an […]
Confrontation in the Workplace
CONFRONTATION. How does this word make you feel? If you’re like most people, you will do anything to avoid it. Confrontation will undoubtedly happen […]

In a new international study just released by KPMG, it was stated that Canada is rated number 2 among 10 countries as a place to locate a business. When compiling the results of this survey, KPMG took into account taxes, labour and utility costs. The Canadian governments (both federal and provincial) have recently implemented a […]
Trailblazing or Treading Water?
With 2009 officially over, it’s time to look back on your year. While there’s no argument that this year was a hard one, the best thing you can do for yourself (and your business) is to consider your year from all angles. What were the positives? What were the negatives? Was there anything specific that […]
Handling Difficult Co-Workers
Everyone is different, which makes it hard to determine the best way to deal with someone. If you’re having difficulty with a person, the best way to help is consider who you’re dealing with, and go from there. Types of Coworkers The Know It All This person is generally always right, and knows it. When […]
Company: No time to take time!
An article was brought to my attention by one of my colleagues that I think makes plenty of sense. The Globe And Mail recently wrote an article called Information-rich and attention poor, on how we as a society have an abundance of information but much less of an attention span. The thought is when there […]
