It is abundantly clear by now that Ontario is in the midst of a job crisis. Despite vastly different campaign platforms, each candidate in this year’s provincial election agreed that job creation was a top priority. Marred by controversy, the Liberal party’s proposed budget was shot down by the opposition earlier this year. But now, the original document has been reintroduced and, with a majority government in place, there’s no stopping it from going forward.
A cornerstone of the Liberal budget is the new $2.5 billion Jobs and Prosperity Fund. This initiative will inject money into growing Ontario sectors, including agri-food, advanced manufacturing, and Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) by supporting businesses in job creation, innovation, productivity, and global expansion. This is no small undertaking for the province. However, this investment will allow targeted industries greater freedom to explore, innovate, and make Canada successful.
