Canada Job Grant 2014

It’s been a long time coming, but it appears that the country is finally ready for the Canada Job Grant to take off. As of July 7th, Newfoundland and Labrador signed off on the program, becoming the last of the provinces to signify their support for the initiative.

The $300 million training plan is the centrepiece of the renewed Labour Market Agreements and is expected to create jobs for approximately 130,000 Canadians per year until 2018. The Canada Job Grant can provide up to $15,000 per new hire through a matching program wherein the federal & provincial governments and the employer contribute $5,000 each towards the employee’s salary. This $15,000 is to be used to ensure the job incumbent obtains the necessary skills and qualifications they need to gain access to jobs in high demand fields. Businesses that have a plan to train a potential job incumbent for an existing or better job are eligible to apply for the grant.
