OMDC Measuring OIDMTC Impact

The Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) has engaged Ottawa-based economic consulting firm to spearhead a campaign to assess the impact of the Ontario Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit (OIDMTC) on Ontario’s economy and growing digital media industry.

Nordicity is administering an online survey to identify how companies are impacted, directly or indirectly, by the OIDMTC, and considers companies’ years in the industry and engagement with the program.

The OIDMTC has been steadily increasing in volume of applications and tax credits awarded each year, with the amount of applications for 2012 doubling from 2011. In 2010-2011, $38 million was awarded to 127 companies – an average recoupment of over $300,000 per company. The tax credit refunds companies developing interactive digital media products up to 40 percent of direct development and content production costs.
