Fund Description

FedNor is Northern Ontario’s Regional Development Agency (RDA) under the Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) program. The goal of FedNor’s Targeted Manufacturing Initiative for Northern Ontario (TMINO) – Productivity Improvements is to assist Northern Ontario manufacturing businesses by supporting upgrades and improvements to capital equipment. The program is expected to result in improved manufacturing capabilities and efficiencies within production facilities, a modernized manufacturing sector in Northern Ontario, and increased export sales and profitability.

Funding Details

FedNor assistance is repayable and will contribute to up to 33% of eligible capital costs and 50% of eligible non-capital costs.

Eligible Expenditures

Project funding is available for activities that will improve and/or modernize the manufacturing process. Eligible expenses are any that are directly related to the project including:

  • Equipment purchases, including digital hardware and software that are a direct part of the manufacturing process
  • Installation and commissioning of new equipment
  • Training on the use of the new equipment
  • Implementation of recommendations from an Operational Assessment (lean manufacturing, ISO certification, quality controls, ICT, etc.)
  • Modernization the facility through upgrades to existing equipment (automation, robotics, ancillary systems)

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for FedNor’s Targeted Manufacturing Initiative, applicants must:

  • Be an established manufacturer in Northern Ontario
  • Have fewer than 500 employees
  • Apply to FedNor prior to incurring costs on the project (except with written consent from FedNor)
  • Have evidence of the capacity to implement the project
