The AgriInnovation Program (AIP) is a five-year program administered by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. The purpose of this program is to develop research and development projects to increase economic growth in Canada’s agri-food sector. The AIP is divided into two streams: Industry-Led Research and Development and Enabling Commercialization and Adoption.
The Enabling Commercialization and Adoption stream focuses on innovation in agri-based services, technologies and products. The types of projects that meet the criteria of this stream are divided into three main sections: Pre-Commercial Demonstration, Commercialization, and Adoption. Pre-Commercial Demonstration involves agri-innovation projects that have been tested and for which commercial operation will be implemented within 24 months, while Commercialization comprises the actual introduction of agri-innovation projects to the market. In the Adoption step, processes and technologies supporting agri-food projects are adapted in the market. Companies that are engaged in a project relevant to the Enabling Commercialization and Adoption stream are eligible for a loan of up to $10 million, which covers 50% of eligible costs, such as salaries, contracted services, and direct project costs.
