For: Ontario-based automotive companies looking to develop innovative electric vehicle technologies
The Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) provides support to the automotive and mobility sector through programming geared towards small and medium sized enterprises. The R&D Partnership Fund offers grants to companies working on electric vehicle projects.
The second round for the EV Stream of the R&D Partnership Fund for 2024/2025 will open on November 4, and close on December 4, 2024.
For: Ontario-based automotive companies looking to pilot mobility technologies
Through FedDev, the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) provides support to the automotive and mobility sector through programming geared towards small and medium sized enterprises. Technology Pilot Zones provide support to companies looking to pilot their technologies at a TRL of 7-9.
Applications to OVIN Technology Pilot Zones will open on November 15, and close on January 30, 2025.
For: High-growth Southwestern or Eastern Ontario-based companies looking to grow, improve productivity, invest in innovation and skills development and expand into new markets
SWODF and EODF provide loans for projects that aim to improve a company’s competitiveness, productivity, pursue new markets or expand the business through the introduction of new products or services. The Business projects stream is aimed at high-growth companies with at least three years of substantial operating experience., with loans of up to $5 million available through the program.
A new intake period for SWODF and EODF will open on November 5, 2024, and close on January 28, 2025.
For: Newfoundland and Labrador-based companies looking to innovate, grow their business, and improve sales
The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is now accepting applications to the Business Growth Program, which provides grants to companies looking to innovate, scale, and improve sales. Projects must be aligned with priorities which include Development and Commercialization, Productivity Improvement and Innovation, Knowledge and Technical Assistance, or Growth and Internationalization.
Applications are now being accepted to the Business Growth Program.
For: Canadian SMEs looking to address PFAS contamination through destruction methods
Innovative Solutions Canada offers funding to innovators capable of solving specific challenges, with the aim of supporting technologies to market. Upcoming challenge deadlines include Destruction of PFAS compounds in contaminated media, due by November 20, 2024. Eligible projects will focus on destroying the majority of PFAS found in water, soil, biomass, biosolids, and spent contaminated filtration media.
Applications to ISC’s Destruction of PFAS compounds in contaminated media are due by November 20, 2024.
For: Southern Ontario-based life sciences firms looking to commercialize innovative technologies
The Southern Ontario Pharmaceutical and Health Innovation Ecosystem (SOPHIE) program assists life science companies in commercializing innovations and scaling up. Successful applicants receive seed funding, mentorship and advisory services, and collaborative opportunities through the program. The program recently received an additional $5.2 million investment to support projects.
Applications to SOPHIE will be accepted on a rolling basis until March 2028.
For: Southern Ontario businesses looking to commercialize early-stage technologies
Nventure, previously NCFDC, established thriveFORWARD in 2022 as a way to provide equity financing to early-stage venture-track technology startups, with a focus on critical sectors such as agri-food, biotech/medtech, cleantech, advanced manufacturing, and deeptech. Funding is available through the program in the form of a convertible note.
Applications to the thriveFORWARD program are due by March 31, 2025.
For: Southern Ontario-based innovators looking for commercialization mentorship
The Synapse Life Science Competition provides support to transition life science products and services into market. The program, delivered through Innovation Factory, pairs innovators with business/entrepreneurship students to provide training, mentorship, and other resources to commercialize innovative ideas.
Applications to the Synapse Life Science program are due by November 10, 2024.
