September 18, 2012 – Rethink Robotics revealed its invention of Baxter, the first humanoid robot with the capacity to learn from and adapt to its surroundings in a manufacturing setting. Baxter is also reported to be one of the safest, cost-smart robots in automation, as it has been designed to work alongside its human counterparts.
September 5, 2012 – International researchers developed a fracture-proof, highly elastic hydrogel composed of water, alginate, and polyacrylamide. They also developed a heat-application process to regain hydrogel material elasticity following overstretching.
September 4, 2012 – At the Photon12 conference in Durham, England, researchers from the University of Manchester revealed that they developed a process for a footstep-sensing carpet using plastic optical fibres. This invention would be able to detect, in real-time, if an individual has tripped or collapsed onto the carpet.
